In 1975 French race car driver and autioneer, Herve Poulain had the idea that art and racing could be combined. He had renowned artist Alexander Calder personalize a BMW 3.0 CSL which was used in the 1975 Le Mans endurance race. Since, BMW models have been used as a canvas for many artists such as Andy Warhol, Robert Rauschenberg and Roy Lichtenstein.
